Happy 4th of July – Summer Reading, Day 17

god-bless-america

Hey! Happy 4th of July. Hope you are having a great day. We are busy doing chores and getting ready for a fun BBQ potluck with some friends and then off to watch our little town’s fireworks. Yipee!

I was doing my Bible reading today and came across these verses I wanted to share:

May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. All nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed. Praise be to The Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen. Psalm 72:17-19

Have a fun and safe day!

Summer Reading – Day 8

Hey there,
Well, I just completed Day 8 of my summer reading and I am so thrilled that I started this. Wow! The Psalms are so awesome and encouraging. Today I read Psalm 36 – 40. There’s still plenty of days left in summer, why don’t you join me?

Since I hurt my back almost two weeks ago, I haven’t been able to work out, so instead I have been sleeping in and then doing my Bible reading later in the morning. Not a bad plan. Today was my first day back at boot camp so I have to mix things up a bit. I decided to do my Bible reading after workout, breakfast, etc. It is so pretty outside and nice to enjoy the sunshine while doing my reading. I guess that is the nice thing about summer – you can mix up your routine.

A few Psalms to encourage you today.

Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O Lord, you preserve both man and beast. Psalm 36:5 – 6

Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

Do not withhold your mercy from me, O Lord; may your love and your truth always protect me. Psalm 40:11

Have a great day!

Summer Reading – Day 4

Hey! Happy First Day of Summer! I have been keeping up with my summer reading of Psalms. I was thrilled to hear Jordan was doing it too. When the kids were younger we would read through different parts of the Bible or do devotionals or scripture memorization together, but now we just do our own thing. It is fun to share with Jordan what we both have read. We are both reading My Utmost For His Highest, which I highly recommend too. It’s so funny how your relationship changes with your kids as they get older. It is so great how we can discuss what we’ve read and she has so much to share- I love to hear what she has to say because she is teaching me things. Wow! So cool!

Today I read Psalm 17 – 20, it was hard to not share everything I read. I love reading Psalms!

Psalm 18:1-3, “I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to The Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.”

Psalm 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

Psalm 19:14, “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

Have a great day!

Zucchini Bread French Toast

We must be doing a lot of baking if we have a whole loaf of leftover zucchini bread. Because of the surplus, we decided to experiment a bit. Using our standard French Toast recipe, we substituted zucchini bread in the place of Texas Toast- not the most successful experiment.

When I’m trying to be creative in the kitchen, and deviating from the norm in the process, there are some groans about “Mom experimenting again.”

I thought it was a good idea- I mean Denny’s has Cinnamon Roll French Toast, how could homemade Zucchini Bread French Toast go wrong?? Apparently it can, cause even the dogs were hesitant.

_DSC0038Since there’s some extra room on this post, I had to include a little something about my new kitchen sign.

eat sign edited

Isn’t it awesome? Our little town has an annual street fair, and I happened upon the JunkArtGypsyz’s booth, and fell in love with their signs.  I just had to have an “EAT” sign for my kitchen. And then, of course, I had to make it a special order, removing the vintage lights. Luckily, they were very helpful, and were happy to oblige. A short time later, my special-order “EAT” sign was hanging on the wall in our kitchen.

Summer Reading – Day 1

Today I started my own summer reading program. As much as I love summer, I sometimes have a hard time when I’m not running 16 different directions, trying to keep up with with sports, homeschool activities, Biblestudies, and all the other fun stuff that goes on during the school year. But seriously, after a busy home school year you would think I would be thrilled for the break – and I am, but I am such a control freak that when I have free time I don’t know what to do with myself. If I actually just relax, I feel guilty. Weird, huh? So besides the regular summer activities such as beach days and bbq’s, and the summer projects such as cleaning out the school cabinets and closets, I have decided to start a summer reading program.

summer reading- day 1 (1)

Today was my first day. I plan to read through the Psalms this summer. Not a huge stretch, I know. There are 150 Psalms and like 90 more days of summer, but this gives me focus and for me that is good. Today I read Psalms 1 – 5. Piece of cake, but so encouraging- you should join me.

Psalm 3:3-4 says, “But you are a shield around me, O Lord; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head. To The Lord I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill.”

Psalm 5:3 says, “In the morning O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.”

Have a great day!
