Fashion Friday- Rhinos are Chubby Unicorns

Rhinos are Chubby Unicorns Tee

I think I laughed a bit too hard at this shirt. And that was before I noticed that the rhino was on a treadmill. Speaking of things that I laughed way too hard at, this Big Mama post (and the two related posts that she links to), is absolutely hilarious. I don’t think I’ve ever  laughed that hard at my computer screen. I would have felt sort of dumb if I wasn’t so distracted by the fact that my stomach hurt from laughing so hard.

So. On a completely unrelated note, this edition of Fashion Friday is very solid. And I’m not referring to the quality of the content, because I don’t feel qualified to speak to that. Today I decided to choose only solid colors for my Fashion Friday picks, which is very unusual for me considering that I’m normally attracted to lots of prints.

Just in case you haven’t clicked away out of sheer boredom and quite possibly annoyance at my ramblings, here are some things that I found this week and loved.

Green Three Quarter Length Dress

This is such a pretty color, and I like how simple it is.

Lush Peplum Tee

Is this adorable or what? I love it.

No Fuss Overall Dress

40496809-02

This is the top contender in my jumper search. I really like the fabric of this one, but I’m not sure how short it would end up being. For once in my life, I may be relieved to find that since I’m not 5’9 like the model above, something actually fits how I’d like it to 😉

Gorgeous. I really like all the jewelry from this little company- it’s all so simple, unique and beautiful! A bit pricey for me, but so pretty.

My mom’s first comment on this picture was “give that gal some lotion!”- haha, yes!

Green Long Sleeve Double Pocket Blouse

Sash Samba Belt

This looks like it has all the makings of a perfect belt.

Melange Athletic Racerback Tank

You just can’t beat Forever 21’s prices on workout stuff- I have a couple pieces from them that I love and wear to bootcamp constantly. I really like the color of this tank and it’s so cute.

New Hobby

I think I’ve mentioned several times about going garage sale shopping. I thought it would be a great way to buy items for Alex’s new place and for Travis’s dorm. I was also able to find several items that I couldn’t live without, such as the giant muffin pan and a really cool blue metal pan that is perfect for camping!

About a month ago I bought this adorable table and chairs at a garage sale. I thought Alex would like it on his patio. He said “no” so I decided to repaint it and keep it on our patio.

Here is the before picture, with Roofus our rescue kitty.

And here it is after several coats of teal paint. Isn’t it cute? Not bad for $20!

Camping Treats

We recently got back from a fun camping trip to the Colorado River! We had a great time playing in the river and eating. I love to stock us up on yummy treats before we go, and this trip was no exception.

Because it was 110 degrees in the shade, we didn’t have a campfire- so I decided to make S’mores themed treats.

mini smores pies 1

S’mores Mini Pies – aren’t these adorable? It was quite a few steps, but it came together quickly. I found the recipe on Iowa Girl Eats. They were good- but not great! Definitely not as good as real s’mores and not as good as this delicious S’mores pie we posted several months ago.

smores rice krispy 1 final

S’mores Rice Krispy Treats – sorry about the terrible picture. I sort of forgot to take pictures and at the last second, just before digging in, I snapped a couple pictures. These were quite good – I would make them again. They were super easy and were yummy. I think I originally found this recipe on Sally’s Baking Addiction and then I just modified it slightly.

Ingredients
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
1 bag mini marshmallows, 10 ounce
4 T butter
1 1/2 cup Golden Graham cereal (I crushed them slightly)
3/4 cup mini chocolate chips

Spray an 11 x 17″ baking pan with nonstick spray and set aside.
In a large saucepan melt the butter. Pour in the marshmallows and stir constantly until melted and incorporated in with the butter. Remove the pan from the heat and pour in the two types of cereal and mix well. Add the chocolate chips and stir gently.
Immediately press into prepared pan, I use a piece of waxed paper that has a bit of nonstick spray on it to press the bars evenly in the pan.
I sprinkled approximately 1/4 cup more of the mini chocolate chips on the top, and pressed them down slightly.
Let cool completely and cut into squares.

Peanut Butter Chip Chocolate Chip Cookies – we’ve made these many times and they are awesome. They were the favorite treat of the trip.

Fashion Friday- I Dyed It!

I’d been thinking about dying my hair for the last few weeks, and last Saturday I got up the nerve to actually do it! I’m now a red-head! My hair is a dark reddish purple- I love it. In the sun, the color looks much brighter- I feel a bit like the Little Mermaid- haha. Keep an eye out for a picture 🙂

Even though dying my hair at home was a little freaky until I saw the finished product, I’m so happy that I did it- it ended up being not nearly as expensive as going to a salon to have it done. All in all, the supplies ended up costing me about $30, and I have enough left-over dye to touch up the roots at least two times in the future.

Now for some of my favorite fashion-related finds this week! (How was that for the worst segue ever? ha!)

Sadie Hooded Tie-Waist Cardigan

I know I just highlighted a similar sweater last week, but this was just too adorable to pass up.

Such a beautiful color.

Black Criss Cross Denim Dress

I’ve decided that I want to buy a jumper- I’m hoping that it will be my next dress purchase. The Clothes Horse is my favorite fashion blog and Rebecca, the writer, (above) is the one who got me thinking about dying my hair. Even though I decided not to go teal like her, I still absolutely love her hair.

Faux Stone Cuff

Hope you have a great weekend!

Treat of the Month- Lemon Squares

lemon squares 1

I really love lemon squares- luckily for me Danae does too! These lemon squares are delicious, so they became The Treat of the Month for September.

As you can see in the pictures, the shortbread crust is actually thicker than the filling, which is a total plus 🙂 If for some odd reason, you’re not a fan of super thick crust, you could put the lemon squares into a larger pan and just shorten the baking time a bit.

To make crust, mix 4 ingredients together and press into a greased 8 x 8″ pan.

crust lemon squares 1

Bake for 25 minutes at 350* or until golden brown. If you like your crust thinner, you can use a larger pan but adjust the cook time.

To make the lemon filling, mix the 5 ingredients together…

and pour over the hot crust. Bake for about 30 minutes more. If you notice the top getting too brown, cover with aluminum foil and continue baking until set. Cool and cut into squares. I like to sprinkle with a bit of powdered sugar just before serving.
