Fashion Friday- Feeling a Little Winey

So. I’m feeling a little bit whiny right now, and I’m going to tell you why. If you don’t feel like reading about someone’s pathetic excuses for complaining- skip this section. Okay, here goes:

  • I’m feeling a little emotionally delicate right now because of Travis’ leaving.
  • My mouth hurts. When you bring up a concern to your orthodontist and he tells you that the problem will be fixed before you leave the office- you know you’re in trouble.
  • I’m tired and sore. I went back to bootcamp this week. I’m so glad to be back, but man oh man, am I sore. And it’s hard to get up so early.
  • School fully started. ’nuff said.

So onto my Fashion Friday picks. In honor of my whiny-ness, I chose all wine colored clothes- one of my all-time favorite colors to wear. It’s so beautiful.

In fact, not too long ago we bought a wine colored t-shirt to “share”- haha. Obviously “sharing” is just an excuse to buy another shirt that neither of us really need.My mom just got some really beautiful aqua earrings that go perfectly with anything this color.

Yes, I realize that this dress is almost $200. But it’s so pretty and the detailing is amazing.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Bars

chocolate chip oatmeal bars 1 edited

I found this recipe in a Family Circle magazine years ago and I have probably made it 100 times. In fact, my kids told me that they were sick of it so the recipe disappeared for awhile. It’s now back and improved a bit! We added peanut butter chips the last couple times that we made it and it was a yummy addition. The bars are fast and easy and they are perfect to put in lunches because they are hearty and stay together well.

Meatless Monday – Bruschetta Pizza

bruschetta pizza 1 edited

While the guys were gone, we made this delicious pizza but we decided to wait and post it on our Meatless Monday post. It was fantastic and so simple. The homemade pizza dough was incredibly simple and had great flavor and texture. We whipped the dough up in minutes and then let it rest for a couple of hours, but we could have made it into pizza right away. We used store bought pesto for the pizza sauce and then covered it in shredded mozzarella and freshly grated Parmesan cheese. We also put a few chopped sun dried tomatoes on it and then baked it. Once it was finished cooking we cut it into squares and then topped it with this delicious bruschetta topping. Mmmm, so good! I think the homegrown tomatoes gave the bruschetta the best flavor. I got this recipe from The Pioneer Woman. The recipe seems long and complicated, but it’s not!

New Beginnings, Finishing Strong and Zucchini the Size of a Baby

How’s that for random?

New beginnings – well, we took Travis to college two days ago. Waaaah!

DSCN0957

While it is a sad and difficult time, it was so awesome to hear the President of the University and several other faculty members say that they have been praying for our students. They actually had a day of prayer where several hundred people walked around the campus: every dorm room, every classroom, every seat in chapel, etc. and prayed specifically for our kids! Wow! Every meeting and event started and ended with prayer. We attended an awesome time of worship Friday night before tearfully driving away. Yesterday we were back to continue with the new student orientation. I don’t think it will really hit me for a few more days that Travis is actually going to stay there. Sleep there, eat there, LIVE THERE!

Fashion Friday- Update Time

I thought I’d give a quick update about what’s been going on around here…

camping collage final

1). Camping was so much fun! We had an awesome time hanging out at this stream one day- we ended up hanging a rope between the two trucks so we could play some redneck volleyball in the water.

2). A few years ago, I reorganized all of our recipes by putting them into plastic sheet protectors and then into three-ring binders. Unfortunately the binders had started to break, so we bought these super cute binders at Target to replace them.

3). A beautiful flower…

4).  Camping food at it’s finest!

5).  I bought ’em! After drooling over them a couple of weeks ago on Fashion Friday, I finally gave in. And they totally exceed my expectations- they are so comfortable and cute. Needless to say, I’m totally in love.
