I had a bit of trouble choosing a title for this post- there were just too many options. “Just Relax” is accurate, but so is something to do with knit fabrics, or even “The Grass is Always Greener”.

Let me explain. I tend to err on the side of dressed up. I wear lots of dresses and button-down shirts. You get the picture. That’s definitely my style, but recently, I’ve been thinking of incorporating some more relaxed pieces. The reason that “The Grass is Always Greener,” would be an appropriate title is that my mom just recently decided that she wanted to wear more tailored things. Ha! It’s so funny how that seems to happen – I guess the saying is well used for a reason.

Anyway, the pieces I chose for this week’s Fashion Friday are more relaxed- and a lot of them happen to be knit. Yay for comfy and cute!

Even the simplest piece can be amazing if it has that little detail that makes it special. Whether that’s an awesome print, embellishment or a bit of lace, that one great detail can make a “basic” piece so fun.

I’ve realized that those “basic” pieces also end up being some of my favorites. They are definitely the foundation of my wardrobe- I find myself reaching for my military jacket with metal embellishments, a simple skirt in bright blue, or my favorite white shirt with gold detailing more than anything else in my closet.

With that in mind, here are some great basics that are just a bit unusual and fun. Enjoy!

We found this at Target and it’s actually cuter in person than on the website- if that’s possible. I’m not totally sure about how I’d do with a white-ish backpack – I’d always be afraid it would get dirty. I guess that’s a risk that I’d just have to live with 😉

I love me a good waist belt. This is one that I received for Christmas, and I really like it. The picture makes it look shinier than it really is- the leather is doesn’t look nearly as fake. It’s a perfect, simple belt to wear with dresses and skirts and the bow makes it fun and girly.

Happy Valentine’s Day everybody! What are your plans for today? Not that I normally do anything super traditional, but this Valentine’s a bit different even for me- I’m leaving for winter camp today! It should be super fun and I’m looking forward to it.

Because of the abnormally nice weather we’ve been having around here (it was a balmy 75* yesterday), we won’t get any snow this weekend 😦 It should still be a blast though- more like spring camp I think! 🙂

I have a pair of oxfords that I bought at the end of last summer for like $15 and have worn them practically to death. The sole is starting to wear out though, and I’m actually considering having them resoled because I love them so much. 

These oxfords from Ruche are really cute too- I like the fact that they are one solid color- it makes them unusual and the detailing on the toe cap is fun.

Nearly everything on today’s post is either something I own and love, or something that I would love to own. Some week’s are just like that I guess. I also realized that some of these things (the tuxedo pants and the two tank tops especially) are a bit different then my typical style- I normally wear “all polka dots and bows” according to one friend 🙂 So I hope you enjoy a Fashion Friday that’s just a little bit different.

I don’t always wear eyeliner, but when I do I use Elf. Apparently I’m channeling the Dos Equis guy now 😉 But seriously, I really do like this eyeliner- it’s only a dollar, the brush is perfect and the tiny bottle actually seems to hold a lot.
